Justin plans his ‘big entrance’ for Moonfest 2009
1:00pm Wednesday 20th May 2009
By James Williams
The organiser of Moonfest 2009 to be held in Westbury has said the festival is ‘on track’ after he applied for a licence to hold the event yesterday.
The festival was cancelled last year when Wiltshire Police won a court order eight days beforehand, after security fears over the festival, due to be headlined by Pete Doherty’s band Babyshambles.
Undeterred, last month John Green, organiser of Moonfest, announced former Darkness frontman, Justin Hawkins, would headline this year’s event at Storridge Farm, Westbury, on August 30, with his new band Hot Leg.
A festival licence was applied for yesterday morning after a meeting with Wiltshire Police at Westbury police station on Wednesday.
Mr Green said: “Everything seems to be on track. There’s been no major headaches so far and tickets are selling quickly.
“We’re still in discussion with Justin Hawkins as to what his spectacular entrance will be, so watch this space.”
Meanwhile three acts have been confirmed for the eclectic tent.with acoustic band llewelyn, rapper Inzane and Oxford outfit Souljacker all making an appearance.
Devizes samba band Oi Sambistas will be entertaining the crowds around the site as well as roaming circus acts.
The event will also include a fun fair, trade stalls and a display by 76-year-old former helicopter freestyle world champion Dennis Kenyon, who has performed helicopter stunts in various James Bond films.

Golden oldie a Hot Leg fan
JUSTIN HAWKINS has bagged himself a 72-year-old fan.
On tour with his new band HOT LEG, the former DARKNESS singer invited pensioner Rita Peachey to sing with him onstage at Birmingham live music club, Barfly.
And now the pair have become great mates.
Rita, of Birmingham, told me: “Since the show he’s asked me backstage at the O2 Academy in Birmingham twice, dedicated a song from debut album Red Light Fever to me on stage, and I’ve even met his family.
“He’s also confided in me about his drug addictions and told me he’s completely clean after many years. I’m really proud to be his oldest ever fan.”
She added: “I couldn’t believe it when he picked me out of the audience and asked me to sing with him on stage. It was incredible.”
