Justin Hawkins launches Gibson’s Dark Fire guitar
Darkness/Hot Leg man tests the technology
Tom Porter, Tue 16 Dec 2008, 4:28 pm UTC
Last month, MusicRadar took a long, hard look at Gibson’s new Dark Fire guitar. It was, and still is billed as a “marriage between Chameleon Tone Technology and Second-Generation Robot Guitar Technology.” Yesterday, the mysterious axe was available to see in the flesh, modelled by ex-The Darkness and current Hot Leg frontman Justin Hawkins.
Hawkins took to the stage at the Gibson Guitar Studio in London to road-test the self-tuning wonder, delivering Hot Leg’s new single I’ve Met Jesus in the process.
Gibson will ship limited quantities of the Dark Fire in the coming weeks, with more promised for early 2009 to meet the high demand. Understandably, the production process of such a technology-heavy instrument takes time.
Photos from the event are below…

Rock and Droll
….Likewise, former Darkness front man Justin Hawkins has launched a new musical group in the shape of “man rockers” Hot Leg. Personal grievances aside, it is quite refreshing to see pure rock still being pursued, and by someone who has previously had such success in the genre…
Maybe this manufactured pop cruelty we’re currently forced to endure is approaching the end of its shelf life? Maybe Hot Leg will nab this year’s Chrimbo Number One honour with the festive ‘I Met Jesus’?

Hot Leg – I’ve Met Jesus
Justin Hawkins has got himself a new band who are approx 3% sillier than the Darkness. Marvellously this video is inspired by 1987 comedy-action-adventure Innerspace, where Dennis Quaid got to whizz around Martin Short’s body on behalf of Science AND to fight crime. That film seemed like it was on telly all the bloody time but I always still got confused when Martin Short turned into the doctor dude from Star Trek: The One With Captain Janeway.
Justin’s spaceship is aptly shaped like a microphone, and he travels around the insides of the Virgin Mary to try and find the unborn Jesus. Good luck with that. Perhaps Hot Leg’s next video will be based on Private Benjamin?
